Dana Carr - Groove Facilitator

Hello! So I have been singing and dancing with friends to feel good for as long as I can remember! I have enthusiastically participated in countless group dance fitness classes over the years and believe in the power of simple, authentic dance to create health and joyfulness in my life and in the world. I am currently most passionate about sharing The Groove DANCEfloor Experience with adults, kids, families and seniors in as many settings as possible — if you can move, you can Groove!

I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Washington University in 2004 and am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Azerbaijan ’06-’08). Since becoming a certified Nia White Belt Teacher in 2016 and a licensed Groove Facilitator in 2019, I have led hundreds of dance experiences both in-person and online.

I love hiking with my husband, crafting with my daughter and walking with my dog. I enjoy live theater, musical concerts, traveling, poetry, arts/crafts, hearty food and heady conversation.

What’s up with the bird?

So I love black-capped chickadees and enjoy hearing and seeing them all around me every day, any season. I somehow feel a sweet, comforting connection with them and am inspired by their vocal, vibrant spirit. They are brave, curious, social, musical little things that mix with all sorts of other birds in cool and cooperative ways!

They also remind me of my mother who always loved birds in general and especially chickadees. She showed me how to talk with them and also taught me a lot about the joy of noticing simple things in nature. This belief in the inherent beauty and playful possibility found in the simple things is at the heart of why I Groove. I share this chickadee image as I share the joy of dance in honor of my mother who instilled in me a deep understanding of the pleasure and power of simple beauty and creative self-expression. Love you, mom.
